Erik’s Advent Calendar-16 Days til Christmas!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and it’s coming fast! A favorite of mine as a kid was the Advent Calendar. For those who are unfamiliar with the concept, Advent Calendars counted down the days until Christmas with fun little calendars. Usually hidden behind the numbers of the calendar were little toys or candy. Little gifts to have fun with before Christmas Day. With that in mind I present to you my calendar full of Christmas Joy. Every day we will knock another down the peg and share a bit of Christmas joy either in the form of a film, a theme park celebration or a special event or show. We will showcase something new and fun every day until Christmas! So get ready to unwrap and share some holiday cheer!

16 Days til Christmas-A Christmas Story
Very few other movies is as synonymous with Christmas as the 1983 comedy-A Christmas Story. So many Christmas icons and great memories go along with that movie. How many kids were “Double dog dared” since that movie first premiered? How many kids uttered the grand-daddy of em all, the big one, the Queen-mother of all dirty words, the F-dash-dash-dash word and wished they had only uttered “Oh…Fuuuuuuuuuudge”? This movie plays a place in so many childhoods as well as Christmas memories.
The movie was directed on a screenplay based off of the works of Jean Shepherd, including “In God we trust…all other’s pay cash”. The stories were from Shepherd’s own childhood, and memories. It has been named many times as one of the most Iconic films depicting American life.
The movie tells the story of Ralphie, who lives with his mother and father in or around the 1940’s. It was the time of radio, before Television. The whole family sat down together for dinner, and times were just more together. More than anything for Christmas Ralphie wants a “Red Ryder carbine-action, two hundred shot Range Model air rifle with a compass and this thing which tells time built right in to the stock!”
