Dollywood teams up with Gaylord Entertaiment for Water/Snow Park

Dollywood, much like Dolly Parton herself is a Tennessee institution. It only seems appropriate if another company wants to do something along the lines of any kind of amusement in Tennessee that they not only get Dolly’s stamp of approval, but partner with her to make it happen. Today Dollywood and Gaylord Entertainment, owner of the Gaylord chain of luxury resorts announced that they will partner to create a 105 acre family entertainment center.

If all goes according to plan Dollywood and Gaylord Entertainment will hold a 50/50 partnership in an all new water/snow park adjacent to the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.

Groundbreaking is expected to happen late 2012 with a projected opening date of 2014. The park will be phase one of the project and cost around $50 million dollars. It will also be the first of it’s kind in the U.S. providing guests with summertime water fun, and winter time activities as well.

“I’m so excited about this opportunity,” Dolly Parton said. ““I am confident that partnering my Dollywood Company with a great company like Gaylord will create something truly special. We’re all working on new types of entertainment to do in the daytime and nighttime for the whole family so we bring new folks to the area year round.””

The planned entertainment area could eventually feature more than just the water and snow park, it could also feature a nighttime entertainment district, shopping and more.

“We hope that some other developers with great ideas will join us in creating this new area.” Dolly continued  “We’’re saying the water and snow park are the first phase, but who knows, if we see some great ideas we could be developing the entire zone by the time the snow and waterpark open. Wouldn’t that be great for Nashville and the state!”

More information once we hear it.
