Cedar Point closed because of water break

America’s Roller Coast is unexpectedly closed today due to a major water main break in the city of Sandusky. The nation’s premiere amusement park is open for the season, however a snag in operations nearby has forced the park to close on one of the busiest days of the year.

The park has released an official statement via their website:

Early this morning, the City of Sandusky experienced a water main break on the main line that supplies water to Cedar Point. The City of Sandusky is currently working to repair the system. Without our normal water supply, and due to safety concerns, the park is unable to open today. All guest tickets will be honored on future dates this season. Please visit cedarpoint.com for the latest updates.

There is no running water available to the park, or Soak City, so both will be closed for the day. The park has not said if the park could open later in the day if the problem is quickly fixed, or if the park is anticipated to open Sunday.

Update
If you have passes for Cedar Point’s Soak City today, they will be honored at other parks.

@cedarpoint: Guests who are holding tickets for Cedar Point / Soak City today may use them at @wildwaterfun in Aurora, or at @KingsIslandPR in Cincinnati

If you were scheduled to stay at one of the onsite resorts at Cedar Point tonight or tomorrow night it would appear that those plans have been cancelled.

RESORTS UPDATE (2:31 p.m.) – The Cedar Point Resorts properties on the peninsula, which include Hotel Breakers, Sandcastle Suites and Lighthhouse Point, will be closed tonight, June 7th and Sunday night, June 8th. Guests can contact the reservation office at 419-627-2106 to cancel or reschedule your reservation. Castaway Bay Indoor Waterpark Resort and Breakers Express remain open.

Update 5:40pm
Bad news keeps rolling in for those hoping to spend the first weekend of summer vacation at Cedar Point. The park will remain closed until Monday June 9th.

) – We continue to work with the City of Sandusky to restore water service to Cedar Point. The latest assessment is that the necessary repairs will require several more hours to complete. Once the water main is repaired, there are additional procedures that must be taken to restore water pressure to all areas on the property, and testing that must follow to ensure the systems are working properly and the appropriate water quality is established.

At this time we have made the decision to keep the park and resort properties closed until Monday, June 9th when – subject to any unforeseen complications – we would anticipate resuming normal operations. As the repairs advance throughout the evening and into Sunday we will provide additional updates.

We recognize that this situation has caused many of our guests to be disappointed. We are sorry that this has happened.

All Cedar Point tickets will be honored on any operating day in 2014 where the park is open to the public.

Please visit cedarpoint.com for additional updates and information.

The park dodged a bullet as the annual Coaster Mania event was held Friday,  and hosted over a thousand coaster enthusiasts.
