SDCC 2015: I’m not gonna kill ya, just hurt ya real bad- Warner Bros. drops Suicide Squad, Batman vs. Superman and more!

San Diego Comic-Con was made for the Superheroes…and this year, for the super villains. The Warner Brothers panel just wrapped up, and while Batman vs. Superman, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. showed some pretty killer footage, it was the bad guys who won. Warner Brothers teased several of their upcoming films, and released a little footage from some others. They dropped some heavy new trailers, but the one that you won’t get to see is the one you really need to see.

The panel started with The Man From U.N.C.L.E. which is based on the TV show of the same name, from the 60’s. It’s a bit of Kingsman meets James Bond, and while it looks like it’s going to be fun, it’s going to more of a period piece than anything else, with the action coming in from all sides.

Next up was some comic movie talk. There will be a Green Lantern reboot in 2020 called Green Lantern Corp. That’s about all we know of it, and it looks like it will feature multiple versions of Green Lantern, which is always cool.

Batman Vs. Superman was up, with some really good footage. Lots of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, lots of Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and our first look at Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. It’s going to be a big spectacle for sure, but will it be able to measure up to the hype that it’s creating for itself?

The real winner of the panel, however came in last. Suicide Squad will focus on a group of villains, all of whom are in prison, that will be brought together to stop an even bigger, badder guy. This is the one that has been getting all the excitement, simply because it’s the first time since The Dark Knight that we get to see the Joker. And we do get to see the Joker.

Talk about a blast and a half. The footage showed Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) assembling her task force of “the most dangerous people on the planet.” They WERE being kept in the deepest darkest hole in the world, that they buried and tried to forget. A nice montage showed what the baddies were doing with Harley Quinn doing splits in the air, as Deadshot boxing, and so on. Most of the footage centered around Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn just hamming it up, and having fun. She’s going to be the big character next year, if the movie is half as fun as she is, then Suicide Squad is going to be the surprise hit. Tons of carnage, destruction, and of course we get Jared Leto as The Joker.
“I’m not gonna kill ya, I’m just gonna hurt ya real bad”.
From the looks and sound of it, the angle they’re going for is a mix between Heath Ledgers Joker, and The Joker from the Animated Series. It looks like Leto will be one of the most fun actors in the role yet.
