USA Today has a first look at the all new Cars 3, which doesn’t hit theaters until 2017. We get the introduction of an all new character, Cruz Ramirez. She is an instructor to Lightning McQueen, who is trying to teach him some new tricks in a world where he is being over come by the younger racers.

The shots are from a beach scene that shows us one of the many new places the Cars team will race through this go round. The new film picks up after Cars 2, and will see an older Lightning McQueen, as we struggles to face the younger competition. That new competition comes Jackson Storm, one of the many new racers who are pushing the entire older generation of racers out of the way.

“Jackson Storm is the face of these rookies who have come onto the scene,” says director Brian Fee. “And McQueen is in a position where his entire racing generation is being pushed out.  But it’s too early to be shown the door right now.”

The Cars franchise is one of Pixar’s most profitable franchises, with both the film and merchandise. Disneyland created an entire Carsland in their California Adventure Park, dedicated to the franchise. The land features the chance to race alongside friends, and even dance in a festive Italian party.

The new film hits theaters on June 16th, 2017.
